The HARD Facts about India’s Water Supply.

Ohai there. Today the Chaborkia would like to introduce to you…

Incredible India’s Water Supply.

People visiting here or coming for a lengthy stay should read this.

tap by you.

This is my bathroom’s water tap. Looks so filthy, right?

Fact is, we wash it frequently.
No matter how much you rub and scrub, you’ll always end up with filthy looking household appliances, like this.

Eh I scrub until very clean each time I finish cooking loh.

Why is it like this?

Well, India has hard water supply. Meaning their water is full of minerals. So the minerals will dry up and leave residue on your household appliances no matter what you do with it. The stains are actually due to calcification. Judging from my tongue, the salt content is very high. When you use the water to rinse your mouth, you’ll feel like tasting salt water. The sensation is exactly the same as mixing one spoonful of salt into your cup of water.

Malaysia, on the other hand, has soft water, so your appliances have minimal water stains after wash and you fet the squeaky clean feel, much unlike here, where the water feels very ‘heavy’.

The effects of hard water to the body?

I witnessed teh power of hard water with my cleanser. In Malaysia, my EPI Derma Formulation cleanser lathers up nice and smooth with soapy bubbles. But in India, after rubbing the cleanser against my face for less than a minute, all the bubbles are gone. 0.0

Then, my head has several itchy spots that appear out of nowhere.

The first 3 days in India, I had terribly itchy skin. My skin is extremely dry too, maybe it’s the salt content that’s sapping up my moisture?

On the other hand, my pimples seem to be at bay.
Could the salt be drying off ‘em pimples?

LOL!

Can you drink directly from the tap?

NO, you absolutely can’t unless you wish to die a horrible death due to diarrhea. It’s very unlike Malaysia, where our water is adequately treated and you can directly boil and drink even without a filter (most Malaysian households do though).

India’s water supply is very, very filthy. If you’re not local, no one living from a civilized country can withstand the bacteria and germs the Indian water supply has.

Besides, India’s infrastructure is a total failure. There is not enough effort from the government to have an efficient sanitizing system for their water supply. Indians who have enough funds, or expatriates like us, live off bottled mineral water.

Our kitchen has a water purifier, which does no shit to the water. Still tastes salty. The big bottle of purified water doesn’t exude confidence as bits and pieces of the hard water remnants are still stuck to the bottle. They’re good enough for the middle class Indian households though, according to our neighbor.

To cap all my points up, here’s a picture of an Indian cabbage.

It looks terribly filthy, but really, you can’t do anything about it because it’s their water characteristic. So the only thing you can do about is to maintain your hygiene. Just make sure you have clean water supply to wash your vegetables and carry on with your everyday cleansing eg. brushing your teeth and cleansing your face.

And never, ever take any risks and attempt to try their tap water. After brushing my teeth with normal tap water, I forgot to rinse my mouth with purified water, then proceeded to pop in my retainers. The next morning, my stomach churned so badly I rushed to the toilet and (*&(&*#^$.

And it’s time to sleep. My Indian clock shows 11 pm but my laptop screams 2 am. My biological cycle is totally fucked up, sigh.

Night!
