101 Stupid Reactions People Give When They See an Acne-Prone Kid.

Acne sufferers already have a lot to deal with in their plate. They constantly need to worry about how they look, and worry about the world’s perception towards them, am in a never-ending search for the cure for their situation, and deal with the throbbing pain that certain types of acne has. Girls with demanding bf’s have to worry about how to cover up the blemish on their next outing with friends. Guys who are initially shy are even more intimidated because he has this spotty little situation to deal with. The list is near endless.

Yet, there are people out there who talk through their asses. They think they are very knowledgeable of acne when they’re not. I have a friend whom has low self-esteem due to her skin condition and choose to live with a face full of concealers and powder EVERYDAY to hide her situation from the piercing eyes of others.

I have this option too, but I choose not to. This type of never-ending concealing and avoiding of the problem will lead you to nowhere and will just dwindle your self-esteem to next to nothing. Your esteem will then be on the mercy of the stick of concealer or the powder cake.

Nuh-uh, not an option for me. I seek cures and don’t believe in hiding from the problem. Though it takes up a lot of my courage and patience to face the hurtful comments and dubious looks people throw you due to your skin condition.

You see, simple words that may seem nothing to you, means a lot to these poor people. The next time you see an acne-prone sufferer, remember they’re sufferers, you do not have to make assumptions about their situations, they already know. They do not like wild guesses or assumptions to what caused their acne- It’s their skin, they know better than you do.

Of course, I have to check on this fact because maybe I’m the only one free enough to research on my situation rather than sit back and take advice from 101 aunties. LOL.

I believe only those who have truly suffered from the crutches of acne will nod in unison after reading this post. It’s not dedicated to the unfortunate acne-prone people. Rather, it’s targeted at those who never run their sentences across their brains when making a remark to a fellow sufferer.

With no further ado, let me proceed with my list. I HATE PEOPLE WHEN THEY:

  • Assume that you’re an unhygienic person at the sight of your acne. They think you didn’t keep your skin clean, that’s why you break out. So it’s all your fault. Dudes, if you know me well, I’m like the last ever person you’d think unhygienic. I keep myself squeaky clean and am disgusted even at the slightest dust on my own house floor. I usually wrap a tissue on the public toilet door before opening it. I use tissue to wrap on the flush before I flush. I NEVER climb into bed without bathing first. Germs on my pillow? No way. I change my sheets regularly and I use a good quality facial cleanser from Shiseido. Precautions all taken yet I still have pimples. So, am I being unhygienic here?
  • They direct you to direct sales products. I DESPISE direct sales people with a vengeance. USANA Health Sciences, for example. I thank you for your STUPID products. I think they’re the main cause of my breakout. Flush out toxins my hat. Toxins ought to come from the asshole, not from your face. But to be fair, there are some who are really good - just make sure you’re not in the mercy of their marketing schemes.
  • ‘Yer, why you like that one?’ This is so typically Malaysian, I think foreign readers will be bewildered. But never mind. We’re not lepers, we’re just humans with a spotty problem okay? Don’t yer us.
  • ‘Eh, use this product lah, very good one!’ Alas, as any severe acne sufferer will tell you, products simply don’t work. I’m not saying on all cases, but for me and a certain group of others, it does not work. Stop directing the poor confused sufferer to an endless vicious cycle. Unless, of course, you’ve tried it yourself and share similar experiences.
  • Why do I have the above point to share? Because I was a victim myself. Multiple times. Girls, please do NOT believe in what others try and tell you about a product. Put it this way: They have nothing to lose and you have EVERYTHING to lose. You might gain, people might pat you on the back - But what if the product goes wrong? People will just shrug it off - The pimple is not on their face anyway.

Yes, lately I’ve developed a mass outbreak again and I have no idea what happened. Apparently the great Dr Ting’s medicine had to lasting effect whatsoever. FYI, I was on prescription drugs for 6 months plus 2 years ago and the bitter old man claimed that’d ‘cut off’ my acne problem. Apparently, NOT.

Today I’ve approached him yet again to check up what caused the latest breakout. The visit was to no avail - I’m still left clueless to my skin condition. The wisest thing he said to me was acne is caused by bacteria and hormonal imbalance.

Like, come on, do I look like a stupid teenager to you? I KNOW. I FREAKING WANT TO KNOW MY CONDITION, NOT A LESSON ON HOW ACNE IS FORMED!

And he wants me to finish a course of Isotetrinoine for 16 months. Siao. I was on drugs for 6 months 2 years back, I won’t succumb myself to the same fate again. If I do finish the drugs, I can imagine my livers dying at the age of 40. So I’m out to seek another dermatologist for their second opinion soon.

Cover your face like Michael Jackson did. Then people will think you’re some sort of a famous celebrity hiding from the crowd. XD

Just kidding over there. Anyway, I found out there are tons of reliable and easier understanding ways on a site.

Hey there, I’m a long time acne sufferer too, especially during midterms and final exams. I recently just stopped using any product altogether, and replaced it with pure water only. By the end of the week, my skin saw some improvements. From time to time I’d use soap/scrub to clean off the dead skin - take note that I don’t wear makeup at all! I’ve started using BioOil on my acne scars (that’s all left of it, huge brown spots all over my right cheek and forehead :( a few one pops out on the forehead from time to time, but not as bad anymore), I’ll see how that goes in a month! Hope that someday you’ll find your remedy too!

P.S. I came by your blog due to your MAC tutorial for monolids hehe - I’m clearly one too!

ShadowFox: fancy seeing you here dude. i love your obnoxious streak in your blog! kakakaka.

Eric_Almighty: your nick is damn familiar. do we have any previous acquaintances in LYN previously? @@

Random reader: wow! that is an extremely bold move! i hope that it’ll benefit you, to each their own, to be honest. though i really dun recommend not using anything to wash the face as we’re living in a concrete jungle piled with lots of dust, might cake on if you dun use some abrasive soaps. unless you’re living where fresh air is of abundance of course. :D

and did you find the monolid post helpful? i hope you did. :)

I’m quite prone to acne as well, so my FABULOUS MAN kit is loaded with many anti-acne chemical weaponry.

LOL, I was about to rant about the same topic too.

Yeah, Stupid people with zero knowledge about acne/pimple problems can go rot in hell.

They even generalised old acne/pimple scars with fresh acne/pimple. Owh come on.

I just hope they will suffer the same when they get old. LOL

It’s true since I’ve seen people with no teenage breakouts contracted acne in later years due to hormonal changes.

Hi there, just have to say, i totally feel for you! I suffered terrible acne from age 20 to 25. Prime years of my life all gone down the drain…acne prevented me from doing lots of things; becoz my self-esteem was practically zero, i didn’t dare to strike up frenships, i refused to look in the mirror, tried to use craploads of concealer among other silly things i did. I also spent loads of $ on crap products, including oral medication like doxycycline that was of little use n just made me nauseous. I was finally ’saved’ after i was prescribed Roaccutane. It was truly my miracle drug n it was such a pity i didn’t try it earlier as it could have saved me loads of pain and $. So, if your acne persists, pl, pl, pl take roaccutane. my acne n oily complexion improved so much only after a mth of taking roacc. If you’re worried abt health problems, go to a reputable doc who’ll monitor carefully and prescribe the correct dosage.

Oh hey there! I stumbled across your blog when I was looking for makeup tips for Asian faces and I couldn’t resist reading through all your posts because they sound so adorable! To answer your question, yes I totally do suffer from acne problems and I used to receive all sorts of stupid comments about my face. The one comment that always gets me mad is the lack of facial hygiene because, like, wtf. That gave me such a complex that grew to OCD-like proportions. I did a lot of research on acne because I knew that I can’t keep using what I used to use before (two different topical antibiotics that I had to alternate each month so that the bacteria won’t get used to a particular one) and I wanted to understand wtf was up with my face and why it hates me. Eventually, I stumbled across Daniel Kern’s Regime (2.5% BP but the secret is to slather it liberally all over your face!) and I have to say I never looked back! I do get the occasional zit here and there, but not as bad as it used to be before. I still get the comments that I am young, that it’s all hormonal and a matter of time before it will disappear, but I’d rather treat it now than to face a lifetime of facial scars. I am not sure if you are interested in this but I would advise you to check out Daniel Kern’s website (www.danielkern.com) because even if you don’t want to use his product, you can read up on the causes and types of acne, as well as the reviews on the other types of medications that people use. Btw, I am in no way affiliated with him; I am just another Malaysia who used to suffer from bad acne for years and just recently discovered how liberating it is to have a somewhat clear complexion for the first time. :D Good luck!

Hangmen: i didn’t know otakuns own man kits. OMG. lol! anything i can do to help you load it up?

luq@igor: let’s hope it’ll leave us be in the future. i have really have enough. standing under the fluorescent light in my room, having to look at the dents on my face, i feel like shit but life goes on.

kokede: thanks for the heads up. actually me and my bf were prescribed with a generic Roaccutane, which cleared my bf up nice and clean but not me. and i refuse to take any more medication because i’ve come to realise that it isn’t the best way. i’ve tried ignoring it, i’ve tried drying acne up via medication, but i’ve always wondered what happens with the gunk that’s still left deep inside your face. so yeah, i’m on treatment via a facial salon. hope that helps. and i’m glad Roaccutane saved you and my bf. bless the medicine. :D

Moi_Anon: hi dear! thanks for going through all my posts. i’m so flattered! *tears up* yeah just like you, i’ve went through tons of websites, went through all the over-the-counter stuff, BP i’ve tried as well. you name it, i’ve got it. i’ve surrendered myself to a facial saloon and i’m very pleased with the results. my face used to be lack-lustre because it’s just so clogged up, it’s totally impossible to handle. but now it’s glowy but alas, scars. T_T the salon said they’d do something about it after they get rid of the ‘poison’, so i’ll see how it goes when i’m back in KL.

thanks for your support babe. love ya lots~
